Trade In Your Traditional Tank
Isn't it time you went tankless?
Why spend energy, time, and money heating and insulating tens of gallons of water in a traditional water heater tank only to let it sit until someone needs it? That's why tankless water heaters—and specifically those from Noritz, the originator of the concept—are a great alternative when it comes to residential water heating.
Tankless water heaters work by using built-in coils to heat water only when you need it, providing about 3.5 gallons per minute on average. The Noritz EZ98 model more than doubles that average, at 9.8 gallons per minute. In the Sheldon Street project, Custom Design & Construction's Bill Simone installed a pair of these units, which are part of the company's EZ Series, designed for ease of installation and operation.
The compact Noritz units can also be installed outdoors and don’t require an enclosure, so Simone has attached them to a wall on the side of the house that allows for easy access but that sees very little foot traffic day to day.
A tankless system will cost a bit more up front than a traditional heater with a tank, but the energy savings quickly offset the expense, and most tankless heaters have a life expectancy of more than 20 years. Noritz tankless heaters have stainless steel heat exchangers resistant to scale build-up and corrosion, meaning no sediment-infused water and resulting in minimal maintenance of the lifetime of the heater.
Since they heat water quickly and on-demand, there’s also no need to wrap tankless heaters in thermal blankets or worry about them being knocked off a base, resulting in flooding. The EZ Series units are Wi-Fi compatible, so when paired with the Noritz Connect WiFi app, users gain wireless remote control and receive diagnostic and maintenance reminders.
